CLASS DESCRIPTION: Exciting scenes are what the reader will remember long after she puts down your book. Theme is the glue that will hold those scenes together. Join nationally known workshop leader Alicia Rasley to explore:

  • Creating scenes as the building blocks of story
  • Fashioning scenes for the greatest power
  • Structuring the scene for drama
  • Ending a scene on the right note Underwriting scenes for more emotion
  • Defining your theme and enhancing it in scenes Using the dialectic to create a theme-building experience
  • Leading the reader, not preaching, with theme
  • Designing motifs that connect the theme to scenes.

This interactive workshop will help you build bolder scenes and enhance the reader's experience of your story.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Alicia Rasley is a Rita-award winning novelist and nationally known writing teacher. She has given writing workshops around the US and Canada, and teaches classes online at www.rasley.com. Her writing articles have been widely published, and her writing book, The Story Within Plotting Guidebook, is available on her website. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband and two teenaged sons.

Her next writing book, Point of View and Your Story, will be released in March by Writer's Digest Books.
